I Choose . . . Sparkling Cider!

In my previous post about junk mail I mentioned that I got mail about my alcoholism, even though I don't drink.  Well, we all know that junk mail makes no sense.  But, Marianne over at We Band of Mothers  was interested and asked me to tell the story of why I don't drink alcohol.   And although I would love to tell you why, it's not really a story, per se.   It's just that . . . I don't drink alcohol.  I never have.   Marianne asked if it was a religious belief.  Most of you know that I am Mormon.   So, in a way I would answer yes . . . as a Mormon I do not drink.   However, I didn't join the Mormon church until I was 25 years old.   And I never drank before that, either.   It's always been a personal choice for me.  My father and his side of the family drank.  As a matter of fact, my grandfather was an alcoholic and died at a relatively young age from alcohol-related issues.    My mother and her side of the family did not drink - - ever.   I saw both sides and made what I thought was the better choice.

So, I guess I owe my not drinking to an amazing mother who was (and still is) an amazing example to me of grace and beauty and strength.

That's it.  That's my boring story.  You can thank Marianne for this amazingly boring post!

Oh, and, YES . . . you definitely can have tons of fun without drinking!!!!   (And you'll remember it the next morning, too!)

  4. I never liked the taste of it at all, esp. beer. I tried but it's icky. But overall I don't drink b/c I'm allergic to alcohol. The reaction is too uncomfortable and it's not worth it. BTW, where you live, is Washington State Apple Heaven so I'm sure you get LOTS of great cider!!!!!

  5. I actually do enjoy a nice glass of CA wine in the evening - but that's about it - one glass (or maybe two on a Friday night) - never beer - yucky tasting stuff! I have been known to have a mixed drink but again never particularly want more than one and , the older I get, the less I am inclined. I would absolutely NEVER drive even if I have only had one glass of wine - no way, no how . I do enjoy the taste of red wine and it can help my neck and shoulder muscles to relax after the tension of work but it is not a must have. Just a nice treat :) And I live in wine country.... what can I say?

  6. I never got into drinking either. Just don't care for it. It was not appealing to me when I was young, seeing friends become reckless and stupid while drinking. I know people can drink reasonably, but I've seen too many people hurt by alcohol. I'd rather be in control of my brain. :-) Now, dark chocolate? THAT I can pretty easily abuse.

    1. AND, dark chocolate is good for you :) AND, you don't need a designated driver when you eat it!

  7. I hate how the media glamorizes drinking. I especially hate the way underage drinking is portrayed as if it was okay. Just my two cents.

    1. The media glamorizes everything that is not good for you. Your two cents was worth at least 25 cents :)

  8. I don't drink either. Partly because I'm Muslim and not allowed to. But also because alcohol disgusts me- I don't see the fun in drinking something that clouds your sense of reason. Usually the reason behind so many problems.

  10. I don't drink either. I have had a few drinks, but I hate the taste of it. Plus, I have known so many people who have ruined their lives because of alcohal, that I just don't wish to support the business by consuming it. I agree - you can have just as much fun - and still remember it!

  11. Though I was raised in the church, the choice not to drink was my own. I had plenty of opportunities and lots of friends who drank. It just never appealed to me.
I agree, you can have lots of fun without it!

  12. I joke about drinking all the time but since alcoholism runs in my family, I control my drinking and am very responsible.
Kudos to you for sticking to your guns and finding other ways to have fun!

  13. same story here, I do not drink just because I do not drink, no reason
sometimes it is hard to make people understand because they assume that any belgian just has to be a real beer lover consuming gallons ..
