Paycheck Fantasy
Pay day. Yippee. However, just once I would like to look at my check and see an extra $1,000 in it. Just because. I would love to be surprised by my employer with that extra $ as an expression of his appreciation for the awesome job I do. Of course it will never happen. But, I have this hope . . . maybe fantasy is a better word. I would then take $500 of that extra cash and go to the grocery store and not care that peanut butter costs $6 for a small jar. I would throw it in my cart with abandon! I would get plenty of frozen food so that when my son asks "is there anything to eat?" I would point him towards the freezer where he would have an array of yummy frozen microwavable things to choose from. I wouldn't worry that the price of cereal keeps going up while the box keeps getting smaller. I would pick our favorite kinds and throw them in the cart.
Maybe I just need to be a contestant on Supermarket Sweep (is that still on??).

I used to love that show! :)
ReplyDeleteMe too! I used to get so stressed watching them and shouting at the TV!!
DeleteA grocery shopping spree is also my fantasy! What would it be like to buy the good kind of soup? ;)
ReplyDeleteI have never bought so many generic brands in my life! I'm still hoping to win a grocery gift card on Albertson's sizzling summer giveaway :) If I do, I'll send you a case of good soup.
DeleteMustn't forget the Nutella jar!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter would not be very happy if I forgot the Nutella!
DeleteI would LOVE to have a grocery shopping spreed!
ReplyDeleteJust give me 15 minutes in Costco - - that's all!
DeleteI totally have a blog post in draft-mode about Super Market Sweep!!! Me and my sisters loved that show!!!
ReplyDeleteWe also love cereal and it pains me that the boxes and prices seem to move inversely.
Can't wait to read that blog post!
DeleteI have always wanted to go to the grocery store and buy what I want rather than what I can afford. What a great dream!!
ReplyDeletePlease tell me it's not just a dream :)
DeleteI definitely don't miss working but I do miss that generous Christmas bonus I used to get each year, usually $1500. One firm I worked at gave me a $5000 Christmas bonus but after taxes I walked away w/ $3300. Not too shabby.
ReplyDeleteWe actually get bonuses twice a year, but I want this in ADDITION - - just to go grocery shopping!
DeleteI used to love Supermarket Sweep, but mostly because I wanted to ride the shopping trolley round the corners of the aisles. ;-)
ReplyDeleteYou don't need a TV show to do that!
DeleteExtra money is always nice...especially when you can spend it on whatever you like.
ReplyDeleteI remember planning out if I was a contestant on that show with strategies of what to get and how to get as much as I can in a short period of time. It is ridiculous the cost of food and I don't know how parents with young kids still living at home do it (son at 23 still lives at home, but we're not buying a lot of milk, cereal, etc).
ReplyDeleteIt would be nice to get a bit extra in the paycheck once in awhile, I do agree!
betty
No bonuses with my employer - unless you call the cutest kid smiles and air high fives bonuses -- which I guess I do ...... they won't buy me fresh blueberries though.....
ReplyDeleteI'd buy lots of this certain brand (now I can't remember the name of course!) of peanut butter granola cereal. I love it but it's too expensive and doesn't last more than one morning in our house!
ReplyDeleteSorry the 2 things that can not be generic is peanut butter & mayo!!! I have always said that being able to buy whatever in the grocery store would the only reason I would want to win some $$$$$, They would give us a cost of living raise then the following month increase our insurance rates WTH huh??
ReplyDeletenice to have a fantasy even if it relates to grocery shopping -;
ReplyDeleteNice Post...

interesting that with an extra $1000 you'd go food shopping .. I'd hit Barneys or Manolos .. or maybe I'd pop into Tiffany ...
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to shop with your eyes closed. I hate to see the prices and, like you say, the ever shrinking packages. Thus I have to keep my eyes closed and it's a wonder I don't crash into things while I shop.
ReplyDeleteI am on a salary so every payday, my check is EXACTLY the same. Nevertheless, when I go to pick it up, I always open the envelope right there in the office and peek at the number instead of waiting til I get to the bank or whatever. It's as though I, too, am waiting for that extra expression of appreciation that's probably never coming. ;)
