$20 High
Okay, I saw something on the internet this morning that made me very happy. And then very sad. It's National Donut Day! That's the happy part (if you like donuts). And you can get a FREE donut at Krispy Kreme today! That's the sad part. We don't have Krispy Kreme. The closest Krispy Kreme to us is about 45 minutes away. As much as I would like a free Krispy Kreme donut, I will not drive 45 minutes to get one. It would probably take three gallons of gas, round-trip. At $4.25 (that's what I paid this morning), my free donut would cost me $12.75. That's probably not worth it. Right? And if I drove all that way to get a free Krispy Kreme donut, I certainly wouldn't want to waste my trip so I would more than likely buy an extra dozen to bring home. I'm not sure what that would cost me, but I imagine about $7-$8 -- does that sound right? So, my free donut would actually cost me more like $20.
I could do a lot with $20. I could go to a movie. Twice. I could buy four boxes of cereal. Or I could buy three boxes of cereal and two gallons of milk (cuz you can't have cereal without milk). I could rent about 15 movies for a day from Redbox. I could pay for one-third of a haircut. I could buy 26 rolls of toilet paper.
So, I won't get my free Krispy Kreme donut today. But that's okay. I'll get a psychological high from saving $20!
Happy National Donut Day (which really sounds stupid).

I'd have to drive to Erie to get my "free" donut, so I'm in the same boat. Let's just save the calories and gas money and feel good instead of deprived. Maybe I'll make donuts, but then I'd eat most of them before anyone came home to help me. Now I'm mad that there is even a donut day.
ReplyDeleteDonut day? I have to check that out at the closest Timmies. I could go for a donut..free or otherwise.
ReplyDeleteOh! Is Timmies giving out free donuts? There's one across the street!
DeleteApparently it's only donut day in the States...we don't rate here in Canada. Timmies didn't know anything about it. We had a donut anyway.
DeleteI wish I'd known about this earlier so that I could have booked a flight to claim my free donut!
ReplyDeleteWe don't have a Krispy Kreme here either! You're too funny...at least you are saving yourself some major money :-)
ReplyDeleteYou totally broke that down just like I would! And do! I always have to figure all things in and THEN I decide whether or not it's a bargain. Well played Mz. Judy. Well played. :)
ReplyDeleteDunkin Donuts is doing the same promotion, and out here, DD stores are as prolific as Starbucks stores are out in Seattle. That said I didn't get my free donut b/c you had to purchase a beverage as well. And the beverages are more expensive than the donuts.
ReplyDeleteI think Krispy Kreme should give those donuts away everyday, I'm a Timmies girl all the way!!
ReplyDeleteGreat blog as usual, and on a side note I just paid 5.07/gallon of gas this morning.
I have a Krispy Kreme right next door!
ReplyDeleteOnly problem is...they're only doing this in the US :/
I read this on FB with someone's status that it was national donut day. Amazing what they will make into a national day, LOL. Too cute about your thought process to not go to Krispe Kreme for their free donut. When I lived in Montana, the closest one at the time was over 1000 miles away in Washington. Hubby/son went visiting to Washington one time on vacation and brought back a dozen; heavenly! A few years later Krispe Kreme opened in our city; you should have seen the lines as people went to it; it did slowly down over time. Now we are in a city where there are a few close by and haven't been in years, but now I want a donut.
ReplyDeleteDo something fun this weekend!
betty
We have a KK 2 miles away and I'm SO glad I did NOT know it was donut day until 10 pm. I love KK donuts, but do NOT need one. Thank God I escaped that fat pill. :-)
ReplyDeleteI wonder if they would send people who live too far a free box of doughnuts... it is only fair! They made me really want a doughnut!! Thanks for all your nice comments over at my place!
ReplyDeleteno krisoy kreme here either, gaz that is much more expensive, no way to save, no way to get psychologically high !
ReplyDeletesad sad saturday
just joking !
glad you hypothetically saved 20 dollars !
anni
$20 is WAY too much for donuts. I say you get some really cute earrings or lipstick, that's what I'd do.
ReplyDeleteand June is National Iced Tea month so wash down you donut with a iced tea!
ReplyDeletethanks, now i am dying for a donut---they are sooo good--but i can always use that toilet paper too!
