Greasy Grimy Gopher Guts

Imagine my surprise when I googled "Greasy Grimy Gopher Guts" to find the lyrics to a song of my childhood and, lo and behold, it wasn't the song that I remembered.   I have this tune floating around in my brain and I'm singing Greasy Grimy Gopher Guts to it.   It sounds right, but apparently it's not.

I wonder how many other memories I have that aren't real?  Or are at least muddled?   Are the memories of my childhood manufactured?  Are they made up?  Or worse, were they implanted by aliens?   Do I really even have sisters?   A brother?   Or is there some chip embedded in my brain that triggers fake memories to come to surface?   I just don't know anymore.    I was positive about the whole Greasy Grimy Gopher Guts thing.   I wonder if I'm in some kind of Truman Show?  Please don't tell me you're watching me on TV.  I'm SO unphotogenic.  And I definitely do not need that extra ten pounds the camera adds.

I'm so confused.

  1. The older we get the harder it is to remember those childhood days. The song I remember was 'gobs of greasy grimy gopher guts and mutilated monkey meat and teeny tiny birdie feet'. Now I have to go google it too! lol

    1. How true that is!! I think you're right about the lyrics. I think I was just singing the wrong words to the wrong tune!

  2. What I hate is when I can Almost remember a song, but not quite. That memory is hovering around the edges of my mind. I can almost grasp enough of it to bring it into focus... but no. I can't even get enough to do a word search. That annoys me to no end. I can't even pull in enough to ask someone about it because I have nothing concrete to build on. Those are the fragments that drive me loopy.

Who would write a song about Gopher Guts anyway? That is one twisted individual. Just sayin'.

  3. When I saw your title, before I read your blog, that song came to my mind and now that's all I hear. Thanks a lot. It may not be the correct lyrics, but who cares!

  6. OK, so of course I had to google it to, but only checked the (ever-factual) wikipedia. Those lyrics were pretty much what I remembered, aside from the omission of the french fried eyeballs! LOL

  8. That reminds me of an old song that Bobby Bare sang called Greasy Grit Gravy. Nothing real there. lol

  9. It's like playing a game of "telephone,' where people whisper a message around a large circle of participants, to see how the message changes around the circle. I do not remember the "song" you allude to, just a saying. And the words to the saying of my childhood are quite different from the song as googled. Very comical post, Judy!

  10. Was it the tune in the videos or a different one, and were the words different. How Odd but if you believe something is true long enough it becomes true.

  12. The wrong words to a song are a life long problem my sister and I have suffered from. I came home from school singing a song I swear the words to were "shaking my boobies" but after my mom called the teacher, it turns out it was "shaking my booties". Since we were wearing cowboy hats at the program, I think it was a cowboy song. ?? Not sure that was any better!

    1. Thanks for the laugh this morning, Michelle. But I have this awful fear I'm going to be singing "shaking my boobies" all day long :( !!

  13. This cracked me up partly because I, too, have some version of Greasy, Grimy Gopher Guts stuck in my head and partly because the other day I was thinking about this drink mix that was briefly available in the late '80s called Burple. I seemed to be the only person who had any recollection of it and I was starting to wonder if I HAD imagined the whole thing. It was real, though. I eventually found evidence online. Whew.

  14. Hmm, I don't remember Burple :) So many fun things from our childhood - - do you remember the one eyed one horned flying purple people eater?!!
