Dude!

Dude.   My all-time favorite word in the whole world.  I'm not sure why.  I'm not a tie-dye, tree hugging, hang ten, catch a wave kind of person.  I just like the word Dude.   I feel good saying it.    And I say it all the time.   "Dude!  Go set the table, will you?"   "Dude, would you stop changing channels!"  (My "Dude" doesn't like commercials).    I will be 75 years old and still be saying Dude!!  Even if it grosses out my kids.   I know it's not very "lady like" and definitely not very sophisticated.   Too bad Dudes!   I'm just a Dude kind of person.

And just in case you need clarification - -  When I say Dude, I am not saying, "Oh look at that man who is so fastidiously dressed."   Or, "That city dweller is so unfamiliar with life on the range, he should move back to the city."

No, it's the other Dude.    The groovy Dude.    Not the "Green Acres" Dude.   The "Moon Doggy" Dude.

And now that I've completely lost any respect you may have had for me . . . Later Dudes.

  2. LOL I use 'dude' all the time, talking to men or women. I even used it a couple times on my boss, 'Dude are you kidding me?!' Russell doesn't like it when I call him that though and I have slipped and he's all, 'Dude? DUDE? did you just call me Dude?' There's a Dean Martin character named 'Dude' in one of Russell's fave John Wayne movies too.

  3. Not sure if it grosses out your kids because you are using one of their words or if is a word so out of date that it makes you seem old. I'm going to guess that since you say it equates to a GROOVY guy or tha MOON DOGGY Dude it is the latter.

I prefer Dude to Cat. Not sure what the kids are using today.

  4. I always have to laugh when DD1 calls her boys 'Dude'. It seems so appropriate. She has been to law school and has her own practice working with non-profits. I certainly hope she is not calling her clients 'Dude'.

  6. As you know, I am not a missy prissy proper kind of girl, but I can count on one hand how many times I have used the word Dude. And one of those of just the other day, I'm not sure where that one even came from.

  10. I love "Dude" but it sounds wrong with my Scottish accent - sounds more like "Dood" - not cool. :-/

  11. I have a friend who uses "Cat" like you use "Dude." It used to drive me kind of Nutso. Now I am used to it. Look at that Cat. What's up Cat? For a while there I thought everyone's name was Cat. Now I know better. hahaha. I think we all have our catch phrases or words. None of mine stick, though. They are all Phases for me... hahaha. Maybe I should have written a post on THAT.

  12. Dude. I do this all the time, too. Sometimes when I text my DAUGHTER and she doesn't answer right away, I will simply text: "Dude?" I have no idea how I picked it up but I seem completely incapable of putting it back down. ;)

  19. Ha! My kids actually attend schools that forbid the use of the word dude. They consider it rude and disrespectful. Yes, really! I was floored when I found this piece of information out because I never looked at "dude" that way at all. You will catch me saying "dude" too. :D
