Pondering Discombobulated

I missed last Thursday's Pondering (sorry Brenda) . . . and now I find I kind of wrote about today's prompt (Resolutions) yesterday.   I feel all discombobulated.   It IS Thursday, right?  Not Friday, or Monday, or Valentine's Day??   I only ask about Valentine's Day because on Christmas Eve my husband and I went to pick up a few more stocking stuffers and found . . . Valentine's Day candy!!!  Holy Cow!!  If I woke up with my head sewn to the carpet, I wouldn't be more surprised than I am now. Oh, sorry. A few too many Christmas movies this year. Or maybe it's just the SAME Christmas movie too many times.   I feign surprise.   I wasn't.   Surprised, that is.   About the Valentine's candy.   I might have been surprised if it had been Easter candy, but not Valentine's candy.

Anyway, since I already wrote my Pondering With A Purpose (albeit not on purpose) yesterday, I just want to mention that I saw Les Miserables on Christmas day.   I'm not like a lot of you (Marianne) who have seen the stage play like a thousand zillion times.   I . . . are you sitting down? . . . was a Les Mis virgin.  Yup.   I had never seen the play.  I hadn't read  the book.   I had no idea what it was even about.   But I knew it had to be awesome.  And I looked forward for months to seeing the movie the first day it was in theaters.   To prepare myself I downloaded the book to my Kindle.  All 950 pages of it.  The only book I've read with that many pages was Gone With The Wind, which I loved.  I was determined to finish Les Mis before Christmas . . .  FAIL.   Big time.  Too much history in it.  I wanted the meat of the story.   So, I read all the synopsises (that's wrong, isn't it???) and would have bought "Les Mis for Dummies" if I could have found it.

So, I went to the movies with a good grasp of the story.  And guess what??!!   I LOVED IT!   I LOVED IT!!  I LOVED IT!!   I read some fan reviews afterwards.   Some were Les Mis afficionados and were disappointed in one way or another.   Like the voices weren't powerful enough, or that Eponine didn't get enough time, or that Russell Crowe couldn't sing, or . . . blah blah blah.    Me??   Being the Les Mis virgin that I was, I thought it was perfection.  And I cried.   And I will see it again.  And maybe even again.

So there you have it!   My Pondering With A Purpose which is really not because I accidentally did that yesterday.    smile

  2. Okay, just the visual of your head being sewn to the carpet made me laugh out loud - for real! Omg.. And I'm totally going to steal that tag line and use it often in conversation because it's just that funny. :) Oh and I'm so glad you love Les Miserables. I've not seen the stage play but I watched the old black n' white movie with my dad when I was really little and I loved it. I haven't seen the new movie but I plan on it.. The candlesticks always stuck in my mind.. Great post Judy.. Try NOT to find yourself with your head sewn to the carpet! Hahahahaha! Makes me laugh just thinking about it!

  3. Les Mis seems so hokey to me - but I am just seeing the trailer on TV. I just might have to see that one.

    1. I didn't think it was hokey at all, but like I said a lot of people who had seen the stage production may have thought it was :) Thanks for stopping by!

  4. I have never seen Les Miserables either. I hear you on the Valentines Day stuff! Don't see why they can't let each holiday be separate.

  5. I haven't seen or read Les Mis although hubby and I donated the original books ( 9 volumes ) to Goodwill. I read Gone with the wind in one day. My favourite movie! Maybe I should resolve to read Les Mis this year.

  6. I'm a Les Mis virgin too and thanks for the heads up on the size of the book. Think I'll pass. ;) You're right, one that long needs a Cliff Notes version. lol Yet give me a 950 Harry Potter book and I'll have it read in a couple of days. I think the reason why the years seem to be flying by is that the stores are constantly pushing us into the next holiday/season. I used to see Valentines Day stuff at the Fred Meyer in Bonney Lake, WA on December 23rd. Unreal.

  7. Reading the comments it seems there are a lot of Les Mis Virgins out there. So, I am outing myself as being one, too :) Not sure even if I get to see the movie. Maybe if I go watch it by myself, since my hubby probably is less than interested - LOL
Oh, and your resolution pondering of yesterday sounds like a well worth effort. Wishing you much success!

  8. I'd be discombobulated, too, if I found Valentines candy in my stocking!

I'm glad to hear Les Miserables was so great. It's on my list to see.

    1. This morning I was thinking I'd like to be a movie critic. Now I'm thinking there's too much pressure!! What if you go because I said it was good and you don't like it?!! haha

  10. Discombobulated... I so love that word! In fact you've inspired me to use it for Two Shoes Tuesday next week...so now you'll really feel confused about your blog hop status! LOL Even with my beloved Kindle reader, I don't get nearly as much read as I would like to, and wouldn't dream of taking on a book of that size. I applaud your good intent! I haven't seen the play either, but intend on seeing the movie after all the great reviews I'm seeing in the blogsphere, and I won't be a bit surprised if it makes me cry too.

    1. Oh man!! I better start thinking now of what I'll write next Tuesday!!

I don't think you'll be disappointed with the movie! I'll be anxious to hear your "review" :)

  12. Great that you saw the movie. It's certainly gotten a lot of buzz. We haven't been to a movie in a theater in a very long time. I want to see Lincoln, much of which was made down the street from where I have a studio/gallery in Petersburg.

Thank you, Judy, for reading Daddy's Christmas Angel and putting the nice review on Amazon!!!

    1. You might be among those, Marianne, who, having seen the onstage production a zillion times, expect to see the play on the screen, and everybody with perfect voices. And if you expect that, I understand you might be disappointed like I've read that others were. I went expecting to see a movie with music and was very much touched and entertained. That, by the way, was a disclaimer if you couldn't tell - - if you don't like the movie, don't blame me!! haha

    2. I shan't ever blame you for a thing, Judy! But appreciate the disclaimer. I am looking forward to better story-telling in the movie vs. the play. I'm glad my expectations for the vocals are being properly managed, as I still have the Patti Lupone version in my head.

  15. Good to hear! I'm hoping to see Les Mis before I go back to work Jan. 2.

  16. Les Mis is the best! No matter how you see it. I've seen the stage version and I have the Liam Neeson non-musical version. I just saw the new movie as well. All are awesome. The story is just that powerful. It's such a story of mercy and redemption. I thought Jackman was powerful and Hathaway was unmatched. Even Crowe did well. It's my favorite production. So glad you finally saw it. EVERYONE should see it at some point.
