War of the Worlds

We woke up this morning to an eery sight.   The sun?  Bright red.   The air?  Thick haze.  Our cars?  Covered in sawdust.  War of the worlds?   No, just fires.   I really shouldn't say "just" fires, since fires are very serious and very destructive.   But I do say "just" because there are no aliens swooping down to scoop our brains out, which, to me, would be worse than a forest fire.    Although if we were to believe the picture above, maybe it IS aliens and they are the ones causing the fires.  And after the fires subside, THEN comes the scooping of the brains!

On my!  I should have called in sick today.

  2. I lived in California for 10 years, 6 in dry-as-tinder Marin County, and this time of year used to scare me to death. I was in SF when the Oakland Hills burned. One fire came very close to our townhouse in Marin too. Then there was the Pt. Reyes Fire nearby that filled our place with the stink of smoke so bad we had to shut the windows. And with no a/c in warm September, that was a drag. The Sunrises were bright red and black. It was creepy. Hope you all are safe!

    1. The fires aren't really close to us - - it's just that there are a TON of them and the gunk is traveling through the air a long long ways.

  3. Stay safe Judy! .... and I think maybe it'd be a good idea to keep the cars dirty ... until the aliens are gone.

    1. Good idea, Larissa! Maybe I'll go splash some mud on the cars, too. . . just in case.

    1. No kidding -- the schools cancelled recess and all outdoor sporting events today. Although, growing up in Southern California, I can remember playing hard outside in all the thick smog. I survived! haha

  6. This is good to know. Wash your car = it will rain or forest fires will break out. Glad you're all ok!

  8. Bushfires give me the heebie jeebies ... but you're right, it's still better than brain scooping aliens. But then, most things are.

    1. It is kind of hard to think of anything worse than the aliens scooping the brains . . .
