Grumpy Isn't Just A Dwarf

I like to think of myself as a pretty upbeat, optimistic person.   I definitely have my moments and get a little grumpy (or even a lot grumpy).    But I think I prefer to be happy rather than grumpy.

However, today I think I will be a bit self-indulgent and let myself feel grumpy, or depressed, or sad, or all of the above.   Just for today.   Maybe even just for this morning, I don't know.   But I am not going to force myself to be happy . . . not yet, anyway.   I think I need to feel this way, even if just for a bit.  After all, you really can't appreciate being happy unless you've felt notsohappy.  (I was going to make a smiley face, but decided that would be too upbeat and optimisic and I'm trying not to feel that right now.)

So, I shall sit in my notsohappy for a while and be back later with my normal, upbeat, happy self!

Until then, don't have a nice day - grrrrrrrrr.    (Is that believable????)

  1. That's three dwarfs...lumpy, grumpy and dumpy, there were seven I believe..let's see...frumpy, stumpy, humpy and bumpy. I think they belong together lol. Cheer up. It takes less energy to be happy.

  2. Good luck! I know how that feels. Sometimes I get upset and I don't know why and it just feels better if I stay grumpy for a while. And even better when that feeling goes away!

  5. i was grumpy on Friday. Just felt crummy about everything. I didn't work on it either, just let it be. I read and napped and on Sat., I felt better. Sometimes we just need a day off from our own life.

  8. As a fellow optimist, I completely understand. What gets me is that when I'm grumpy, so is everyone else. Which makes me grumpier.
    Here's hoping tomorrow is a Dopey-er day.

  9. I don't think any emotion is wrong except for a false one. And when I say that I mean SO FAR FROM WHAT YOU ARE ACTUALLY FEELING THAT IT IS RIDICULOUS. I do think that we can trick ourselves into feeling better by "pretending" to feel slightly better than we do. And then we actually do. We can gradually do this long enough until we actually do feel better. But, there is something to allowing yourself to feel ~ for a while ~ the bad emotion. Accept it for what it is so that you can move on. That is how we work THROUGH things. The key is to not get STUCK. And I think everyone has met someone who is stuck somewhere on the emotional ladder. Being stuck anywhere is simply not healthy.

I think people need to hear the message that I am going to be grumpy, sad, depressed for today. Why? Because that is how I feel. But I won't be staying here because I know it isn't good for me. But, for right now, this is where I am. And I am okay with that. Because it is what I NEED. And I am honest like that.

If you post tomorrow and tell us that you are Sleeping Beauty, we are going to have a conversation about what doctor you are seeing and what meds you are taking. Mostly because I want my own Rx. But we can have that talk through the email, k?

  12. Judy? Grumpy? Why not? See what it's like to wag the dog, for once. You are the epitome of what represents warmth and grace. Being grumpy for once is A-OK with me. I have to tell you, though, I am having an awfully nice day, so there.

  15. The advantage of living on the other side of the world is that I know that by the time I write and certainly by the time you read this, my comment is totally obsolete and usually it does not matter but on a post like this one, it does. I could have ignored and not written but chose to do the opposite, just to be contrary because that is what I feel like today ;)

  19. This reminded me of my favourite joke...

The seven dwarves were in the bath and they all felt happy; so happy got out and they all felt grumpy.

    :-D

  20. Hmmm. I had one of these days yesterday. I was quite rude to my husband when I got home but since he was able to blame it on PMS, he took my grumpiness like a grain of salt. I just went to bed a 9:00, slept 10 hours and viola! Today was a new day. I agree - we all should be allowed a few grumpy days a year.
