Stupid Criminals

Okay, new month . . . new craziness.   Although, technically, since today is May 1, this craziness happened last month.  Here's the story . . .

We woke up the other morning to find our front door wide open, our back door wide open, and our backyard gate wide open.  The air conditioner was turned down to 62.   We keep it at 72 with strict orders NOT TO TOUCH IT!!   Freaky weird.  And extremely cold.  All of our children were home and nobody heard a thing.  Not even our dog.  Not a peep.  Not a creak of the door.  Nada.  Although, personally, I think Izzy (dog) may have heard something as she was growling all night long.   I just thought that she was hearing people going in and out of the bathroom all night - - seven people sharing one bathroom, and said bathroom is across the hall from our bedroom where we and our dog sleep.  Yes, this is the same dog who has been mysteriously found (3 times) whimpering on our dining room table with no clue as to how she got up there - - mystery still unsolved.  But that is a different story.

So, back to doors open.   My daughter's laptop was right next to the front door.   Not taken.  My son's wallet was on the dining table.  Not touched.  What.a.bunch.of.stupid.criminals.  We found a long board (a long skate board for those of you out of touch with today's lingo) on our front lawn.  And . . .eew gross . . . we found blood on the inside wall near the front door.  I do not even want to know how it got there.

After checking with each of the children, we determined that the doors were most likely left unlocked the night before.  What.a.bunch.of.stupid.people.   We live in a very safe neighborhood, but still . . . LOCK THE DOORS!!!

The police came and wrote a "suspicious activities" report and told us to do whatever we wanted with the long board - - throw it away, keep it, put it on the front lawn with a "you forgot something" note.  It's in our garage - - those inept criminals will never see it again.  So, we got a long board out of the incident, which is more than the intruders got, judging from the blood on the wall.   But the whole thing did get me thinking about Izzy and the suspicous dining table incidents.

Do ghosts ride long boards?    Just wondering.

    2. Yeah, well I feel pretty hip just knowing that it was a board with 4 wheels because when you first told me I thought you were referring to a long 2X4.

  2. How old are your kiddos? If I were you, I would have to look at Darling Daughter and for that matter Hubby Dearest and wonder which one of them was jacking with me. That is creepy though...I vote for lock the doors!

  3. If your newspaper has an editorial section, I would write this in a letter there and call them out. Tell them they left the skateboard. It has been dusted for fingerprints and the police are finished with it if they want to pick it up. :) I too live in a relatively safe neighborhood. It is mainly retired community. There are a few family's here with teens and young kids, I keep my doors locked even during the day.

    1. GG - that is one of the options the police gave! Well, except the fingerprint thing. But put an ad in the newspaper saying we found it, and then when someone comes to pick it up, call the police!

  5. This is not at all funny, this would eat me alive! I think the first call I would have made, after calling the police, would be one to a security company. I think maybe, since your attack dog is on hiatus with no known end date, I would need as many bells and whistles to go off if these pranksters should ever return.

We also live in a very save area, and I usually do not lock the doors when I am home but I need to stop that, as you never know.

Well, at the very least your life is exciting!

    1. Amazingly, I'm not freaked out. The blood grossed me out, but didn't freak me out. Weird, huh?

  9. Holy cow that is spooky and creepy. I'm so glad that nothing was taken and that all of you are OK. Still, how does your dog get onto the table??? Lock those doors and triple check it at night! You might want to consider getting an alarm system too. It's a scary world we live in.

  10. What a strange story, I hope you told them all to lock the doors but I'm curious of the dog on the table and whimpering story!

  13. Did they call in a CSI team to dna the blood?
I am baffled but I still think you need to set up a video camera somewhere.
My husband locks all of the doors, checks them 9 times and sets the alarm. Then he checks the alarm 9 times. No fun here.

    1. No, ever since they hired Sam from Cheers I don't trust CSI. My son offered to sit on our roof with a shotgun and see what happens :)

  14. That is really weird! It does sound kind of paranormal, but I don't think a ghost would leave a long board. Too freaky. I hope nothing else weird happens!

  17. Oh my goodness! Weird! We do lock the doors at night, but during the day if our door isn't standing wide open letting in bugs, we must be on vacation.

  18. Sounds like an X-files episode. Where are Scully and Mulder when you need them? Creepy. Glad all are OK. By the grace of God...

  19. We don’t lock our doors either (Note to any stupid criminals in my neighborhood: Just kidding we do lock our doors).

Curious, didn’t the police officers feel the blood on the door was something they should have investigated?
