No Politics Allowed

Disclaimer:   This is NOT a political post.  I do NOT want to know your political views.
(Oooh, that sounds kind of rude - - sorry.    I like you all and want you to like me regardless of politics  - insert smiley face here).

Okay, so yesterday Mitt Romney's brother was in our office all day.  He was using a conference room to hold meetings with prospective donors.   I didn't meet him, but I passed by once when the door was open.  I saw him and heard him speak.  He doesn't look much like his brother but his voice was very similar.   (By the way, if President Obama's brother were here (does he have a brother??) I'd be just as interested in seeing him.)   The point being, though, that we are a little place tucked in the southeast corner of Washington - - we don't get many celebrities here.  Even faux celebrities.  Well, I guess that's not exactly true.  Valerie Bertinelli's nephew lives here.  My son went to school with him.   Does that count?   I guess that's kind of like Mitt Romney's brother being here - - not Mitt Romney.   Valerie Bertinelli's nephew - not Valerie Bertinelli.  Oh, and I forgot - - Batman has a house here.   No, not Christian Bale, or Val Kilmer, or Michael Keaton or George Clooney.   The REAL Batman - Adam West.  (I wonder if Robin ever visits?)   And, of course, the famous quarterback Drew Bledsoe grew up here and comes back often.   And I'm sure other famous people or their brothers or nephews have come here because we are kind of famous for our wine and very famous for our onions.

But, anyway, yesterday was almost as exciting to me as my $15 worth of rewards coupons at Albertson's the other day!    (When you lead a boring life, it doesn't take much to make you happy.)

Hey!  Don't these kinds of things come in threes?!

  1. I used to work at Aspen Grove. It's BYU's family summer camp up in Provo Canyon. It's not far from Sundance. One day I was with some friends on a trail and a group of people on horseback passed us. Robert Redford was one of them and I didn't even know it until he was gone. It was someone else I was with that recognized him. That's my brush with fame. Things do come in threes so maybe something else fun will happen for you soon.

    1. That would have been exciting for me back then . . . when he still looked good :)

  2. I think deaths and plane crashes come in threes.
I saw Scott Bakula a few times at the resort I worked at before we bought the restaurant. I Wiki'd him just now and he was raised in St. Louis. I waited on him and his parents a bit. Very nice. My husband met Jay Leno in Branson and Obama got an order of fried chicken at a diner a block from my restaurant. My chicken would have been way better and my restaurant is still open (the diner was a dump) but it would have been cool to see the pres. Even if I might be a Republican.

    1. I like Scott Bakula, but I forget the name if his show even though it is running in my brain right now :) I would have had chicken at your restaurant if I had been there!

  3. I'd be holding out for Orlando Bloom or Donny Osmond for #3. Keeping my fingers crossed! I met President Clinton at LaGuardia shortly after 9/11. He was just kind of standing there in an almost-empty airport, taking a commercial flight to Chicago to prove that flying was still safe. Regardless of any political views, I had to run over and shake his hand. And yes, I left my baggage unattended. Please don't call the FAA on me.

    1. The FAA will be showing up at your house along with the secret service and homeland security to discuss the baggage incident. Hide anything incriminating.

  4. Hilarious posting. We have a few famous people from WV like Nick Nolte, Bob Denver and probably others and well we have the Wonderful Whites from WV (reality show) also. I personally never met any of them. Locally, they all want to be superstars! :) I do think I would have acted like a groupie or something to get attention, maybe try on my imitation of Marilyn Monroe "omg Mr President" j/k... Loved the posting

  9. Not sure if they come in threes, but just think how many people you are connected to based on the 6-degrees-of-seperation idea!

  12. If you want to meet famous people go hang out at the SLC Airport. I saw some General Authorities and Gladys Knight there. And seeing Donny and Marie for my Christmas Gift in VEGAS- well you know I love them. I'm a name-dropper. I love to meet 'famous' Quilters like Eleanor Burns. And 'famous' Quilt book Authors like Jennifer Chiaverini. I skipped the skyping with Ann Romney. I'd rather Skype with my grandchildren. How's that for Non- Political?

    1. Mary, we skipped the skyping too. And we saw Gladys Knight in the Las Vegas temple!

  15. Kyle Maclachlan of Twin Peaks fame has a vineyard here too--(or so I've heard) he's a Yakima boy originally. And I think one of the bad member of R.E.M. has a house here too...and haven't you seen the Rod Stewart look a-like drive around in his red Corvette?

Of course, having never met Rod in person, I guess it could ACTUALLY be Rod...:)

  16. Yes, these things do come in threes. I wonder who number three will be!

  17. I was "this close" to one of The Oak Ridge Boys and I almost threw up. My sisters and I had just left their concert (yes, we are huge fans and we were the youngest people in the crowd) when we realized that guy next to us was one of The Guys. We ran away in nervous terror. I'd make a terrible stalker!
