Creepy Crawly

I have this thing about creepy crawly things - especially creepy crawly things in the thousands. I turned on the TV this morning to watch the news and happened upon a commercial for a show called "Infested." Thousands of creepy crawly bed bugs - and they weren't even in a bed - they were crawling up and down the walls and swimming across the floor. It was gross and I want to go "puke." And now my head itches cuz I swear they're in my hair. And my face itches, too. And we're going to Seattle next month and all I'll be thinking about when we check into our hotel is . . . Well, I'm sure you can guess. Stupid TV.

  1. I watched that show ONE time and was a basket case for several days after. The swarms of bugs and mice were just too intense. I did tell my hubby that if I heard some rustling up in the attic, he'd better check it out. I do not want to be ground zero for any kind of infestation!

  2. I'm not averse to bugs in general, but en masse, that's an entirely different thing. Ick. Probably it's best you don't read my "stone" for today.

  3. We exist in a world of [better not say "infinitesimally small"] very small critters, of so many makes and models, you absolutely do not want to know details. I mean, it used to really be bad when we kept finding scorpions INSIDE the house, until we found out they are not poisonous-only a little bit -where we live. And Judy, I love the teasing about my vocabulary. It's my bad, and that's an end to it. It's when you stop teasing me that I will start to worry. :)

  4. Mark, it is your exceptional way with words that I look forward to everyday when I open your blog :). And the teasing? When I understand everything you say without having to think about it - That's when the teasing will stop. Which, I assume, will be no time in the near future.

  6. How did you survive Venezuela? That place swarmed with stuff. I remember hearing them crawl all over one night and then finding little nibbles out of my flip flops the next morning.

  7. I'm SO with you on this one. The spectre of bed bugs has ruined the idea of travel for me.

  8. Okay then, Judy, this will gross you out..... part of what falls to me way too often at work (because school nurses went the way of many good things for education in California) is - you guessed it - checking for lice. Someway or another, I will become aware that we have a possible case of lice and someone needs to confirm or deny this. You can't just call parents and say your kid MIGHT have lice - well, you can, I suppose, but it's better if you have some evidence. Sooooooo, guess who has good kid skills and great communication skills AND who knows what to look for when checking for lice - yup! add that to my job description (oh, do you see it there at the end? "Other duties as assigned"....). So the little (or not so little) person comes in and I get to look carefully in all the familiar places for even one louse or nit. I am good at reassuring the child that this is no big deal, it happens to lots of families - it even happened at my house when my kids were in the primary grades -- all the while I am, nvertheless, cringing and hoping NOT to spot one of the buggers. Trust me, I always wash my hands really really really well when the inspecting part is over.....

And, I do think about the whole bed bug thing EVERY SINGLE TIME we travel and stay in some kind of lodging place. Ugh.

  9. sebtown - fortunately I don't think my husband has ever had to check anybody for lice - he does almost everything else :). The lice thing totally grosses me out - we went through it too many years ago - icky

  12. What is with you and these shows you watch??? I could never watch tv with you! Lol! The animal cruelty shows, and now infestation shows? Sheesh woman! :D

    - And Sebtown, I'm surprised you just wash your hands afterwards. I'd probably need a full hose down and shower! And then I'd have to switch offices!

  13. Okay, in all fairness to . . . me :) Noisy Quiet, I didn't watch that infestation show - gag me. I just saw a commercial. But, yes, sometimes I watch those animal cops shows - - I don't know why because they make me mad and cry. But there are happy endings, and that's what I like the most.

  14. I've watched some cop-type dramas for the same reason. I want to see the happy endings. I can't tolerate animal shows though. I can't even tolerate animal commercials! I hear the music start, and "click!" channel changed!
