Send the shuttle to the bathroom, please

I go on my computer this morning and the first thing I saw was this headline:

"The most expensive home listing in the US" - -

I love looking at homes and fantasizing, so I looked.   The most expensive home listing in the US is in Dallas - that didn't surprise me.   The price?   $135 million.   Still didn't surprise me.   Shocking, disgusting maybe. . . but not a surprise.    The square footage?   Almost 29,000.   That's 29 THOUSAND . . . FEET.   I did a quick calculation and realized that you could fit more than 14 of my houses inside this "home."   A 29,000 square foot "home" . . .  home is such a funny word.     I did a quick "google" and found many 29,000 square foot "buldings",  as in commercial buildings.   I found no 29,000 square foot "homes."      Who needs a 29,000 square foot home???   Not even the Duggars need a home that big.  That would be over 1,000 square feet PER PERSON!!

This "home" has a 6300 square foot "guest house" - - I want to live forever as the "guest"!!!   It has a 7200 square foot "pool house" - - again, ME - - GUEST - - FOREVER.

Okay, I don't really want to live in their 6300 sq foot guess house and swim in their pool or get lost in their bathrooms or grocery shop in their kitchen.   I like my reality too much.

So, I will happily go home to my 2100 square foot home after working 8 hours today, and I will count my blessings, of which there are many.

After all, I am a grandma :)

  1. That's just insane. You could fit 34 of my 850 sq foot houses in that! No thanks! I'm like you. I'll stick happily with my little wee house (that does NOT require staff) and count my blessings.

    1. Yes! As as our children have left, we find that even 2000 square feet is probably more than we need! Although, I WOULD love a cook!

  2. We live in a "more is better" generation. I am not sure that is so. When there is more, there is more to clean. More to maintain. More to tax. It all adds up. They can have it...

Did I already tell you that I left something for you on my last Thursday post. If not, I am telling you now:)

  5. That's a big house and really just gross. They couldn't have built a smaller place and donated the rest of their money to charity?

  7. That is crazy huge! I was a little surprised the most expensive home was in Dallas since the cost of housing is less down there than it is up here! But I guess if you build a 29,000 square foot home it's going to be expensive no matter where you build it and then there are all of the add-ons that make it luxurious! :) I wouldn't want that huge of a house either; who'd clean it? LOL

    1. It was built decades ago and the architect is well known - well, at least to people smarter than I am :)

  8. When I think back to the birth of our oldest son, in 1982, Annie and I were living in a sixteen by twenty foot cabin, with no electricity, no running water, no phone, no gas, and no heat. The good news? We didn't need a shuttle to get to the bathroom, because...there was no bathroom. Loved your post!

  9. Holy crap! The first thing I thought of was the heating and cooling bill for that place! No thanks! And all that cleaning!! Ugh. That is crazy stupid excess. I'm wonder if the owners are foreign. They usually go for all that big n' gawdy crap. Even if I had that money I wouldn't buy that house. A little cabin on a piece of land looking out to the mountains with one of God's swimming pools nearby and I'm good. :)

  10. My husband thinks our 1100 sq. foot house is too small, but even this may be too big for him.
Can you imagine trying to clean the thing? I suppose you might have to get your own pool boy.
