¿Por qué no te callas?

I have a strange cornucopia of emotions right now.   (Side note:   just typing "cornucopia" right now makes me want to see Hunger Games again.)   But back to the strange emotions.

I read a friend's blog this week wherein she wrote about some of her personal experiences and some of the personal pain that those experiences have brought her.   Pain caused by others, whether intentionally or not, due to insensitivity, rudeness,  and ignorance.   I watch Criminal Minds.  I know that some people are just evil and like to inflict pain on others.   For some reason they like it.  But the people who bring about pain simply by being insensitive or rude or ignorant are not like those people on Criminal Minds.   But the pain still cuts deep.   I can almost understand the evil kind of pain.   It's harder to understand the other kind.   People like you, or me, or the next door neighbor, or the teacher, or priest, or the brother or the sister - - well, those people aren't supposed to cause pain.   They're supposed to love and support and encourage and be friendly.  And when that doesn't happen, that causes me to have strange emotions.

My solution for strange emotions of the type described above?   Just be kind.   Celebrate each other.  Appreciate our differences.   Don't be rude.   Be supportive.   Encourage one another.   And if we can't do that?   Then JUST SHUT UP.  Please.

  1. I agree with ya. Unfortunately people are so into themselves/selfish/entitled that rudeness seems to have become a way of life. I see a lot of 'I'm right, you're wrong, you're an idiot' stuff on Facebook too. The old adage, 'If you can't say something nice don't say anything at all' has been forgotten. You have to wonder how miserable a person must be themselves to want to be hurtful to the ones they allegedly love.

    1. There really are just mean spirited people in the world, aren't there? They should go home until they can play nice.

  3. This calls to mind that old saying "If you can't say something nice about someone, don't say anything at all!" Amen, indeed! We can get pretty frustrated with the folks in our lives sometimes, but those unkind words and actions can cut deep, so much better to talk to the person and try to find a way to work it out!

    1. Seriously -- if we could all just live by those words we would all be a lot happier!

  5. I'm with you! The tough part is when someone is being rude or insensitive and they don't even get that they are being rude or insensitive. I have no problem "educating" children when it comes to that sort of thing - but adults? ugh

    1. That's the scariest - - when people don't know they're being mean or rude. I don't really have a problem saying something to those people. Well, I take that back. It IS hard to say something, but sometimes things need to be called attention to.

  6. I'm with you, although I have said things that I have infinitely regretted. Most mornings I say a little prayer that I not hurt anyone's feelings with my words during the day. I have a tender hide myself, but a dangerous tendency to sarcasm.

Something I'm still trying to figure out is when someone repeatedly says things that hurt me, when is enough, enough? I want to be forgiving, but I also don't want to be a doormat.

    1. We all say things we regret. Like some said above - - if you can't say anything nice, then don't say anything at all! Words to live by!! Easier said than done sometimes, but words definitely worth trying to live by!

    1. Marianne, this post was written by someone who says stupid things:) All the time. I am talking about people who say MEAN things, and RUDE things. That's not you, I'm sure of it! If it was, then I don't think Anderson Cooper would have invited you and then bumped you from his show. He just wouldn't have invited you at all! lol

  9. You'd think we would outgrow the sensitivity to these kinds of things, but we don't. You also might think people would outgrow the need or desire to say them. Reminds me of the Primary song, "Kindness Begins with Me."
