A Death in the Family
Our dishwasher died. Finally. R.I.P. No, I take that back. I hope you DON'T rest in peace. You caused enough grief for us over the last couple of years that I hope you rot in dishwasher hell. It's not enough that you always left disgusting crap in the bottom of our glasses, but you flooded our kitchen a couple of years ago. Right before Christmas. It's hard to make Christmas dinner in a gutted kitchen. No floor, no appliances, no running water, no nada. If you've never had pizza for Christmas dinner before - - don't. Dishwasher, you caused us many headaches that year. The seller of the dishwasher had to talk to the maker of the dishwasher who had to talk to the manufacturer of the dishwasher's offending part, who then had to send the offending part on a little Italian getaway. Don't ask. All I can say is that I'm glad I work in a law firm.
So, when our dishwasher finally gave up the ghost last week, it was with rejoicing that we pulled the plug (water hose, that is) and kicked it to the proverbial (and literal) curb.
On the upside, we decided what a perfect time to upgrade to stainless steel appliances. On the downside, we can only afford to buy one appliance at a time. So, until we can replace the refrigerator, and then the oven and microwave, our kitchen will look a little . . . well, stupid.
But, at least the wicked dishwasher is dead. Party at my house!

Is that the picture of it flooding your kitchen? Oh wow. Good riddance. Although I wish we had a dishwasher- would save us so much time and effort!
ReplyDeleteour new one hasn't arrived yet, so I'm off to wash dishes - hope your weekend is great!
DeleteI don't want to sound too gleeful for fear that my own still-working dishwasher will overhear, but (and I'm whispering now) yay! I'm happy for you! ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm happy for me too - now!!
DeleteNo problem, just tell people "What your gonna do." Our guests are always impressed with what we're "Gonna do" to our house. We have great "Gonna do" ideas.
ReplyDeleteYou don't need money to fix up and impress people, as long as your "gonna do" nice stuff. It sounds like your kitchen is "gonna be" beautiful!
I love that! what I'm "gonna do!"
DeleteI like that approach too! I'm "gonna do" so much!
DeleteSorry your dishwasher died, but very funny posting. We are switching to stainless steel appliances and like you one piece at a time. I've learned they sure don't make appliances like they used to!
ReplyDeleteand they''re not cheap!
ReplyDeleteThere are so much more fun things to spend money on than replacing appliances, but at least a shiney new stainless steel dishwasher will be pretty to look at, and hopefully it will not multi-task and attempt to wash your floor! Mine are all behaving at the moment... fingers crossed!
ReplyDeleteyes, I'd rather spend $ on something else for sure :(
DeleteI think if you wanna do this right, you need to listen to Mozart's "Requiem". lol I haven't had a dishwasher since I lived in California, and I moved away from there in 1999. I'm the only dishwasher in this house! I didn't know you worked in a law firm...and if I did I forgot. I used to as well; for over 20 years. It's a nice little 'pet' to have. no one likes to hear that you work for a lawyer. :D
ReplyDeleteI have worked for lawyers for YEARS (with a break of two while I worked for school districts) :) I have been really blessed because mostly I've worked for nice, honest lawyers - - and, yes, I used "nice" and "honest" in the same sentence with "lawyers."
DeleteYee-haw! And I LOVE when people have mix & match stainless steel and whatever that plastic is that covers appliances. Makes me feel at home and welcome. I'm so happy for your loss!
ReplyDeleteWell, we'll have to have you over before we "match" again :)
DeleteWe are in the process of replacing the 30 year old stove - RR claims that it doesn't NEED to be replaced and I can't really dispute that. There is only one burner that requires a match to light it (the other three will spark up just nicely, thank you) and the chips off the enamel front are not TOO noticeable - and the part from the top that has etched off? oh well - it is functional......
ReplyDeletebut I think I have him talked into it.... and while we are at it, how about we replace that ugly mistake of a countertop we installed 15 years ago? We have lived with that mistake long enough.... maybe I would cook more consciously if I liked being in the kitchen more?
Okay, that was a really nice side effect of the dishwasher flooding our kitchen - - we FINALLY got to replace our 50s kitchen with an actual up-to-date pretty one! New cabinets, new tile floor, new countertop . . . and now new appliances (albeit one at a time). But, it hasn't helped me to like cooking anymore than I did before!
Deletenever knew anyone being that happy about appliances going down!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the new one when you get it all set up.
ReplyDeleteDing-dong the dishwasher's dead! We had a flood in our kitchen (from a pipe, not the DW) so I know that pain all too intimately. It sucked.
ReplyDeleteMay you and your new dishwasher have many clean and happy years together!
Ugh! We've had the worst luck with dishwashers in this house. We've had four of them in six years. The most recent died in August. My kids are getting really good at washing by hand. I keep telling them it's good preparation for a mission. hehe. That's when I'm not telling them how I grew up always washing by hand.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new appliance! (Who cares if they match?)
Yay you! Stainless steel appliances are nice and I don't know too many people - personally - who actually go out and buy ALL their appliances at once. Not now anyway, the economy is just too awful. My dishwasher is the pits. Some stuff is clean, other stuff is not. I just wash by hand, so much easier for me and then everything gets clean!
