I Ponder All The Time

Since I am not creative enough or good enough or confident enough to write a book, I am not participating in NaNoWriMo this month.  I admire all of you who are doing this.   However, just because I can't write a book doesn't mean I don't have thoughts and can't write them down!  I, indeed, have plenty of thoughts.   So, I have decided to participate in Pondering With A Purpose on Thursdays.   Click on the cute blue picture on my sidebar to see what it's all about..

This week's prompt is Devastation or displacement.     With Sandy strutting her stuff earlier  this week, you would think that would be a nobrainer.  Talk about devastation!  Talk about displacement!   My thoughts and prayers are with all who have been touched by Sandy.

My father-in-law was a great man.   His name was not Sandy.   However, he did have what some would think is a girl's name - - Val.   He was not girly, though.   He was kind and compassionate, two traits that we sometimes unfairly attribute more to girls than boys.   He was the greatest man I have ever known.  Great in his gentleness, great in his love for his family, great in his profession, great in his character.   You get the picture.  He was a great gentle man.   Then the nasty "C" word became part of his life - - part of all of our lives.   He lived through the "C" word gracefully and we watched as the "C" word took his life.   Devastation.   But yet . . . not.

Families are forever, and we will be with this great man we love once again.

  1. I am not creative enough, so I have to do NaNoWriMo as a rebel going with non-fiction!Pondering with a purpose seems like it would have been a great alternative for me! I have never tried any "here's a topic" kind of things...maybe next month! ;) Have fun

    2. Andrea & Judy - you're both full of crap. You are two of my favorite bloggers and fully capable of writing great stuff. Enough of the second-guessing and get cracking. xoxo Walsh

  5. So glad to have you following my blog. I know that my family is so precious to me. I remember all the wonderful lessons that I learned from my Mother. Although her health was devastated, not so with her spirit. She was an inspiration even in death.

  7. First let me say welcome to Pondering.... this post is wonderful and it is a shame that we have not figured out how to cure that horrid disease. It has taken far too many of our loved ones!

    Thanks for pondering with me!

  8. I have to disagree with the creative and good enough part of your first sentence. I think you just need to work on the confidence part. You might surprise yourself with what you can do.

  13. Cancer... the evil queen of devastation, tearing out the hearts of families who must carry on. I love this tribute to your father-in-law, the kind of man my husband is, and the kind of man I wish we saw a lot more of in the world. YOu were blessed to have him in your life, and I know he felt your love. Yes you will see him again, I'm sure of that!

If you're looking for fun places to share a bit of writing without the need for tremendous effort... join me at Two Shoes Tuesday this week, where the prompt will be "choice". I'd be happy to see you there! :-)
