Choose to Be
I have a date on Tuesdays now at Two Shoes Tuesday. You should check it out.
As I read blog posts this morning, it is apparent to me that most of us are feeling the same way today. For some reason, today seems to be the day . . . to feel grateful . . . to see things in a different way . . . to notice . . . to choose to be thankful. November is typically the month to acknowledge our blessings . . . but today in particular just has that feel about it. I don't know what it is, but I feel compelled to feel grateful today. I look around and see the beauty around me (well, not here in the basement - - although I'm sure I could find beauty down here if I chose to), but this little town of ours is gorgeous this time of year. It's almost as if it was supposed to be part of New England but escaped to the west instead, to grace us once a year with explosive autumn colors.
It is my choice to feel grateful today . . . not only for the beauty of nature, but for so many other countless things. I feel small, yet I feel so noticed. Noticed by a God who has blessed me so abundantly. And for that I choose gratitude.

I feel grateful each day I am able to get out of bed!
ReplyDeleteMe too! And at the end of the day when I get back into bed as well!! :)
DeleteGood choice you make there. May your gratitude bring abundance in your life. We also have to be thankful for being thankful. There is a Muslim prayer called 'The Whispered prayer of the thankful' in which my favourite lines are:
ReplyDeleteSo how can I achieve thanksgiving?
For my thanking You itself requires thanksgiving.
Whenever I say, 'To You belongs praise!',
it becomes thereby incumbent upon me to say,
'To You belongs praise'!
I love that! We can never be thankful enough . . . ever. Thank you!
DeleteWe have full sunshine for the first time in a long time and it makes me extra thankful. I didn't realize how much I missed it.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy it! Maybe it's a sign of brighter days ahead!
DeleteGratefulness & thankfulness what a great choosing you have chose!!! Happy Tuesday :)
ReplyDeleteI had a lot to choose from - - :)
DeleteGratitude is definitely a good thing. I wake up every day so thankful that my life is so much different than it was this time 2 years ago, when I was afraid to hope for anything and just slogged along, hating myself and my life, knowing that things were just gonna get worse with each new day.
ReplyDeleteAnd just think of the possibilities of the NEXT two years! Life will be good!!
DeleteI feel that way too. I don't know why, but this morning I just had a sense that today was going to be a good day.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I get down about things, but not today.
Don't you wish everyday could be like today?!
DeleteWelcome to Two Shoes Tuesday; Judy, I'm delighted to have you join us! I absolutely love your thought about chosing to be grateful! It is so true... we can choose to grumble our way through life, or we can count our blessings, every single day. I always feel great pity for the folks who don't believe they have any to count, I feel like they aren't looking very closely. Truely beautiful post here, great reminder!
ReplyDeleteThanks for inviting me to join - :)
DeleteGreat post. I agree that feeling grateful is a choice and our lives are much more fulfilling if we are grateful for what we have rather than pine for what we don't. It makes me think of the old Irving Berlin song: "When I'm worried and I can't sleep, I count my blessings instead of sheep, and I fall asleep counting my blessings." Sound advice.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love that song!
DeleteIt was indeed a good day, Judy and one to be extremely grateful for, all of us...
ReplyDeleteCouldn't agree more! That is why I am dedicating my month of posts to being thankful. It is so very important to take a step back and really recognize the blessings that surround you.
ReplyDeleteExactly! You could get awfully discouraged if you didn't take time to step back and count blessings!
Deleteit should be a daily practice....to be thankful, after all, if we wake up each day, then THAT is something to be thankful for, right?
ReplyDeleteYes, it good to be thankful, but not smugly satisfied. We should be satisfied too that we can choose as so many in the world do not have that privilege.
