R.I.P. Cujo

All my life I was afraid of dogs.  Big ones, little ones, old ones, young ones - - it didn't matter.  I was terrified of them.  My sisters still tease me about being chased around and around the house by a vicious, drooling, girl-hungry killer dog.  I admit now that the killer dog was actually the cutest little puppy ever, just wanting to play.  But, at the time I knew it wanted to kill me.   Yes, I was terrified of dogs.    Until, that is - - -

And now I love dogs.  All dogs.  Big ones, little ones, old ones, young ones.  It doesn't matter.  I just love them.  Dogs love unconditionally and are loyal and happy.  Yes, I love all dogs.  Even this one - -

I feel sorry for Cujo.  It wasn't his fault that he got rabies and "conducted a reign of terror on a small American town."   He didn't have a choice.   Poor baby.   And, anyway, why didn't the woman notice that Cujo was getting sick?  He didn't turn into a crazed dog instantly.  Oh ya.  She didn't notice cuz she was too busy CHEATING ON HER HUSBAND.  Stupid woman.   Anyway, I digress.

I love dogs.   And I look at Cujo differently now.  I think I'm going to have to take that movie out of my scary/horror movie library.

    1. Hmmm. I don't like clowns. I'll have to think of a substitute comparison :)

  3. All dogs are "puppies" to me .. Big old Great Danes will be met with a whole episode of "Oh what a cute puppy!" I'm not very much into small dogs, for myself that is. I love them, but I want a dog I can wrap my arms around without being afraid of squashing. Cujo is a big dog, but that black puppy doesn't look like he is. So what about you? Do you rather big dogs or forever puppy-sized ones?

    1. The little black dog (Izzy) is the first dog I've ever had - - someone was getting rid of her so we took her. She's such a part of the family I can't imagine our home without her. However, I would love a big dog (or two) as well!!! I'm not discriminator of size!

  5. Never saw, or read, Cujo but everyone I have talked to said the same thing: how sorry they felt for the poor dog. I was not a dog person at all, till I got my sweet little Pepperbean in Feb. 2003. Now I love them!!!!

  6. I've been scared of dogs for so long, and I'm just now coming around to not being afraid of them. But Cujo? Freaks me out. Stephen King is the same reason I am scared to death of clowns....

    1. I'd still be afraid too, Anni, if it weren't for this little pup we got a couple years ago!

  9. This is the first valid defense of Cujo I've ever read. Poor, sad puppy dog.

And your little friend there? ADORABLE! And I'm not a dog person.

  10. I completely agree about Cujo. The book is even more pitiful, because you can get a sense of what the dog is thinking about what's happening to him.
