Corn Maze Freak Show

Once upon a time there was a group of children . . . cute, cuddly, innocent, loveable, naive children . . . who skipped along, holding hands, singing Disney songs.  Not a care in the world.  They grew up in loving homes, and all throughout their young lives they made their parents proud.   They were honor students, athletes, compassionate, service-minded young adults.   They graduated high school and went off to college . . . a conservative school with students whose morals aligned with their own and professors who cared.   Yes, really cared.

One night this group of young adults went looking for the innocent fun of the local corn maze.  They got there, no one was there, but the "Open" sign shone brightly.   It called to them.  They stepped into the corn maze, skipping happily along.   Until the flashing lights.  And the bull horns.   "You in the corn maze!!!   Come out . . . NOW!!!"   Startled, the group tried to find their way out - - it's a corn maze, remember.   It took them a couple of minutes.   Yet, the voice on the bull horn persisted . . . "COME OUT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

They finally made their way out of the corn maze . . . to find three police cars, lights flashing, officers at the ready.   The group didn't know what had happened.  They thought that perhaps they were there to save them from some crazed lunatic thrasher type who was stalking them in the corn maze, double bladed axe at hand, ready to whack some heads off.    Not so.   The coppers were there for the innocent, fun loving group of young adults.  What??, you say?  Why?   Were THEY actually a group of crazed lunatic thrasher types??   No.   They were just kids.

Remember the "Open" sign shining brightly?   Well, let's just say the "Closed" sign should have been lit because the corn maze was, in fact, closed.   Innocent mistake, right?   Well, the police in this little college town didn't think so.   (Not much action for the police in this little college town.)    They cited each young adult for trespass, made them go to the police station the next morning for fingerprints and mugshots.   And now they have to appear in court to plead their case.    These young people (and their parents) are hoping that the judge will see the silliness of this and dismiss the charges.   When the kids went in for their fingerprints and mugshots, even the woman behind the front desk of the police department said "This is just ridiculous!"    Indeed it is.

So, my advice?   Make sure "Open" means "Open" and not "Closed."   And watch out for crazed lunatic thrasher types with double edged axes.

  3. How did the police get there so fast? How did they know anyone was even in the maze? Who reported it? Almost sounds like a setup to me.

  10. At first I thought that this was a fun Children of the Corn meets The Andy Griffith Show story! It's a shame that these innocent kids had to go through all this.
BTW, Deputy Barney Fife was allowed to carry one bullet in his pocket. Julie

  11. OMGosh I remember my daughter making me set through the movie Children of the Corn. I am not a big horror movie fan, so I set with my face covered through the movie. Because of that I don't want to be anywhere near a corn maze. Hilarious posting, and can you imagine, one bullet Barney after already firing his gun and then meeting the children of the corn? :)
