Bring It On

I am beginning to feel a bit of fall in the air in the mornings and in the evenings.  The inbetween part, though, is still warm enough that I think it premature to put on a sweater and try to breathe in the crispness of autumn.    But I do it anyway!     It's my favorite time of year and I don't want to miss a second of it.   Maybe if I put on a sweater when it's still 80 degrees the autumn weather will come more quickly . . . as if it's rescuing me from ridicule.

School has started, Halloween candy is out, fall decorations are in the stores and, more importantly, college football has started!   Pumpkins, apples, crunchy leaves beneath my feet.  Sure signs that fall is near.   The crafty side of my brain is starting to wake up.   Well, I don't actually MAKE crafts, but I do BUY craftsy stuff and I will make frequent trips to JoAnn's in the coming weeks.   I am feeling the need to get out my crock pot soup and chili recipes, and to send my husband out to the garage to make sure we have enough wood to last us through the winter.   Our fireplace is clean and ready to welcome the snap crackle pop that it will play home to for the months to come.

Yes, I am ready.  Bring it on.

  1. *sigh* I hate to say it .. but I can actually smell autumn too ... and I've begun to notice I'm not all sad about it ... it's kind of exciting ... I kind of can't wait to settle in for the months ahead ... I think...

  2. I love autumn, especially those crisp dry mornings when the sun gets really bright and your nose is still cold. :-)

  3. Autumn is my favorite time of year, don't know why it just is.
I love the leaves, the cold mornings, the sun going down just before dinner, wearing pants again. The list just goes on.

I can't wait until it feels that way here too!

  4. I miss Autumn. I haven't experienced one in so many years. Where I live, it's just always summer (and a very fake winter).

  9. Yeah - I am the weirdo in the group - I don't like autumn. I wish I did b/c so many people do but, listen, it's the season of dying - not death - but dying. The lovely summer flowers go away, the sunshine goes away, the darkness comes in. Admittedly, I have a personal issue b/c October is when my dad died - but I am trying to like the season more. Both my sister and my daughter LOVE it - I am trying. really, I am.
You painted a sweet picture here, Judy - sadly, I am not into football nor crafts - and burning fireplaces is against the rules in our county....
let's see though - I can appreciate the fall colors in Oct and Nov - and I can get excited for kids and Halloween - just plain fun - adn if the SF Giants were to go to the WS, then maybe, just maybe, I could embrace Fall!

    1. I love weirdos :) You just look at autumn differently than I do, I guess. Instead of dying, I see promise. My husband's father died in October as well. He was a hero to all of us. Fortunately, however, we have birthdays and other things to celebrate that month so . . . :)
And the Giants? Maybe someday :) I hope so for you and Mark!

  11. It was just starting to feel like autumn and then we've had a warm snap. It hasn't been too hot, but the humidity has been high. I just keep remembering it's Sept. and the heat can't last forever. I love autumn.

  12. I love the adorable Halloween decor on the shelves at Marshalls...plus I am nowhere near ready to drag out the boxes of stuff I already own, so I can pretend they do not exist and treat myself to a few new ditties! Our air conditioner broke though, and it is just warm enough that here on day 5 I placed a repair call.
