It's been a long week, but I'm finally home. I will suffice it to say that the week went well . . . well, if you don't count the heat and humidity we suffered through all week long! I don't know how people who live in the midwest do it - - I was miserable. We passed a sign downtown that said 115 degrees. I don't think it really WAS 115, but it felt like it! So, the heat - - oh, and a little melodrama within the family, but we kind of all were holding our breath for that one. Other than that, we had a nice celebration of my dad's life and remembered the good old days - - and the good days still to come.
And, about my haunted hotel - - the Skirvin. No, we didn't stay there. I was being a little conservative with my dinero, and it was a bit too pricey for us. We decided, instead, to do a priceline thing and got a 3 1/2 star hotel downtown for less than $100! This 3 1/2 star hotel was very, very, very nice - - and right across the street from the Skirvin!! So, naturally we went and explored! It really was quite gorgeous and had a really early 1900s feel to it when you walked into the lobby. 30 foot (feet??) high red velvet drapes off to the left, the gold elevators straight ahead . . . that 30s music playing everywhere. It kind of felt like the Stanley Hotel (you know, from the Shining). I expected Jack Nicholson with his ax to assault us in the hallway! But, he didn't.
But, enough for now. I have files piled up that I must get to . . . I can't wait to catch up on all your happenings from this past week!!
Did you take pictures??????
ReplyDeleteGlad you are back, I have missed you!
It has been so hot and dry here. I like the heat but the crispy grass and trees make me sad.
Welcome back! It's been hot and humid on the east coast too. I also miss Washington weather.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back. We have the heat now...our turn I guess.
ReplyDeleteThe only good things about death are that they give you an opportunity to celebrate a life. Remember a life. Share in the good times with family. Dish up those old memories. And laugh and cry over the good times. We need those things for closure. And to bring us together. No life that is lived is ever really lost. It lives inside the hearts of everyone who remembers that person. Your dad now lives inside of you. When you are ready and able you will hand them out like precious gifts. And they will live on inside of your children. It is how the best of us survive.
ReplyDeleteNice going with the 3 1/2 star hotel! How cool that you were able to stay ACROSS from the haunted one! It's funny, when you started to describe it, I pictured The Shining's hotel before you even said that!
ReplyDeleteThis part that you wrote "... we had a nice celebration of my dad's life and remembered the good old days - - and the good days still to come." I have to remember that second part more often.
I'm sorry, again, about your dad. I'm glad that overall, though, you had a good visit.
- Welcome back :)
welcome back; I am glad to hear it went as well as something like this can go and it does sound like a nice tribute/send off for your dad. Glad you got to at least see the hotel and spend a bit of time there exploring it!
