Are You Kidding Me??

Well, all I can say is:  Holy Cow!   My 19 1/2 year old daughter woke up yesterday morning not feeling well.   She was fine the night before.   But she woke up with her stomach hurting, throwing up, and a bit of a fever.   She even called in sick at work, which isn't like her.   So she stayed on the couch all day, in between visits to the bathroom to, well, throw up.   Man, I was thinking, I need to stay away from her!   I can't afford to get the flu.  Yes, I am indeed a loving and nurturing mother :)

This morning she woke up and the pain had moved from her stomach to her right side.  Uh oh.  We all know what that means.   She couldn't stand up straight, and her pain was enough to bring her to tears.   So, off to urgent care she went (with her dad).   And yup, she's in surgery right now - - emergency appendectomy.

In the last three months we have had a case of scarlett fever, a brain MRI, a tonsillectomy, my father's funeral, and now an emergency appendectomy.    Thus, the Holy Cow!

Although, as I think about it, we really have been blessed - - we haven't had to face earth shattering illnesses (such as the big C), my daugher wasn't hundreds of miles away at school, and my father lived a really good, long life.   And, yes, we do have insurance (although we still have to pay quite a bit).  So, while we will be working hard and long to pay off medical bills, we will also be enjoying good health and the joy of being a family.

And for that I am very grateful.

    1. No kidding, JoJo! When my son showed me his rash a while back, I immediately thought of the measles. He went to Urgent Care and since the rash didn't start on his face they ruled out measles and tested for scarlett fever, which came out positive. I was amazed!! But with the right drugs it went away and he has since had his tonsils out :)

  6. Oh wow, that's the first thing I thought of when you said her pain had moved to the right....but I'm glad it got caught instead of rupturing and like you said, that she was home with you and not away at school, etc. Good attitude to have with all you've been going through; let's hope things settle down just a bit for you and yours!

  7. Holy crap. That's really scary (and one of my biggest fears, which is why I always haul the kids off to Prompt Care any time they have gas....I'm convinced it's appendicitis). I am glad she's doing better and I'm so sorry for the rough go your family has experienced. Thinking of you!

  8. Good grief. When it rains, it pours. You are good to look at the positives! I had an emergency appendectomy when I was 16. My doc said it was "red hot" and ready to burst, so it's good that your daughter went in. Hope you get a break now for awhile. :-)

    1. My husband's burst when he was 19 and it was miserable for him. So, yes, another positive for us that our daughter's hadn't burst!

  9. Holy Hannah! Thank goodness that things worked out the way they did, and that she was home with you when everything happened. Hope her recovery is quick! You and your family are in my thoughts!

So I guess that even when they grow up, they still need us sometimes, right? Good to know!

    1. All our children are grown up now and they all still need us! I asked somebody the other day who has children older than us if they ever stop needing us, and he said NEVER!!!! Kind of nice to know :)

    1. Thanks Lily! As long as the dog doesn't jump on her stomach while she is convalescing on the couch, I think she'll be just fine :)

  11. What a great way to stay positive. Often, we race through life with nary a care about our future, ever living for the moment, that is, until something (usually health related) stops us in our tracks.

I'm sure she'll be just fine. Too, it sounds as if someone is testing your resolve to stay positive. Keep the strength!

    1. Thanks, Jeremy. She is doing fine - with the help of yummy drugs :) It would be way too easy to get depressed over some of the things life hands all of us - - that's no way to live!
