Po.Ta.Toes

Boil 'em
Mash 'em
Stick 'em in a stew

Samwise Gamgee.   A true friend.   Frodo couldn't have done it without him.  Everyone should have and be a friend like Sam.  But, this post isn't about  Sam.   And it's not about LOTR, although I am a big fan.   It certainly isn't about creepy/pathetic Gollum.  And it's not about friends.  Although we all need friends.   No.  This post is about potatoes.  Po.Ta.Toes.

I don't know why I love potatoes so much.   Maybe because of their versatility.  There is so much you can do with a po.ta.to.  Mash them, french fry them, make pancakes ouf of them, hash brown them - - - need I go on?    Maybe I love them because they are a comfort food, and I am in constant need of comfort.  If they could make a blanket out of potatoes, I would have one.  I would hold it against my cheek and sigh.   I would sleep with it.   But, instead, I eat Po.Ta.Toes.

And I am comforted.

Aaaaah.   If only life were that simple.

  2. Oh I agree and so many different ways to fix them or to add toppings to them to become loaded with cheese and baocon and chives yummy. I am hungry now.

  3. During the 60s and having very little money, my mum would eat copious amounts of potatoes because they were cheap.

She now hates them but oddly enough, every time I go for a visit, I'm served them in a variety of dishes.

    Ooh and potato pancakes, yum!

  6. Coming from the 'potato state', I have a deep love for spuds. We used to go in the fall, after they'd harvested, and pick up what was left for free. I recently tried The Pioneer Woman's recipe for twice baked potatoes- heavenly!

  8. We all need at least one friend as comforting, versatile, and just plain old good as a potato. I need to go get some ready to mash to go with the meatloaf we're having tonight.

  16. " If they could make a blanket out of potatoes, I would have one. I would hold it against my cheek and sigh. I would sleep with it. But, instead, I eat Po.Ta.Toes. - LOVE that! My favorite! I've felt that way about things too!

Re Samwise - which this post is not about ;) - I hate that he gets left behind in the end, after EVERYTHING he went through. I hate Frodo because of that. Really do. I think he's a putz. *I* would have made arrangements for Sam to come with me. A team. We'd both go, or none.
