"Little Boy"

So, the social worker took "Little Boy" to my husband's office after school yesterday.  She told him that she had some really good news.  She then asked him what the best news he could get would be, and he said, "Not having to go back to that foster home."   The social worker told him that he wouldn't have to go back there, and asked him where he would like to live.   "Little Boy" looked at my husband and said, "With Mr. L . . ."    And that was the best news Mr. L could have gotten.   And the social worker said that yesterday was the best day of social working she had experienced.  Ever.

And while we may only have "Little Boy" for a short while, maybe it will be long enough to help him feel valued and safe.   And hopefully down the road when he finally settles in to his permanent home, he will go with confidence, knowing that somebody loves him.

If only all little boys and girls . . . and big boys and girls . . . could be loved . . . by somebody.  What a better world it would be.

  1. I am so happy for "little boy" and for your family. Every child born deserves to be loved and sadly that is not always the case, but I am certain that for whatever time he is with you, the time spent will leave so many memories for the little guy. : )

  6. You and your husband have such a wonderful opportunity to make that little boy's life so much better. Makes me cry just to think about it. All children should be so fortunate. Bless you.

  7. Thank God for people like you and your husband. I used to train and license foster homes. It was a scary field to get into. We hear so many bad stories. The truth is, there are a lot of really giving people just like you. Thank you and good luck. I will be praying for your little boy.

  10. There are special places in the universe for several categories of folks - day care providers, nurses, nursing assistants, garbage collectors, teachers.......and of course, foster parents.

Way to go, Judy, and Judy's husband.

  12. I'd love to be able to do this for children one day. It's really upsetting when they have no-one in their lives to take care of them :)

  14. Amen. My husband was in the foster system from about the time he was 3 1/2 until he was almost 5. At that point he was adopted by the parents who raised him from that point on. His caseworker told my mother-in-law when she took him in that he and his half-brothers had suffered "abuse and neglect of the highest order." His adoptive parents did a tremendous job with him and one of the half-brothers (the other was adopted out much sooner because he was still an infant when taken from the original home), but both of them still bear the emotional scars of those early years.

  15. That scene in the office...I dreamt of that as a child. I'm sure many people have. Thank you for, vicariously, making my dream come true.
