Creeped Out

My husband had to be at work early this morning for a meeting.  And, since I hitch a ride with him, that meant I had to be at work early, too.    When we left it was kind of dark and very cold.  Frost everywhere.   Foggy.  Creepy (but cool creepy, not creepy creepy).   I thought of the Paranormalist.  And that Doris Day movie - - the one that takes place in London - - I forget the name.  But I remember being creeped out by it.   Anyway, my husband dropped me off at the dark stairs which lead down to my office and watched me go in.   I am in the corner of the basement and, when it's dark, it's very very dark :)  I was the first one in the building (it's a relatively small, one story with a basement).   I turned on the light and immediately locked the door behind me (I never do that).   But my imagination was starting to act up.

I love scary movies.   And a scene from every single scary movie I have ever seen in my lifetime came to my mind.   The Shining - "Come play with us . . . forever and ever and ever."  I could see Linda Blair pushing a priest out of the window.  AND I could see a stringy haired dead girl climbing up my wall.  Sure, all of those are just movies.   BUT I believe that there are spirits all around us, and a few of them are not as sweet as Linda Blair!  So, I thought of that too, and was really creeping myself out.   I was just about ready to call my husband to have him talk me down from my self-imposed creeped-out mode . . . when I heard a voice . . .

"Good morning Judy!  Happy Friday!"    Okay, I can unlock the door now!

  1. I hope you saw whoever said hello first. I would have jumped out of my skin, if I just heard a voice first.

  2. My sister is single and lives alone and refuses to ever watch any kind of scary movie. I don't blame her. I love scary movies, but only because I have my husband to snuggle up to when I creep my self out.

  3. Yeah, I think if I lived alone I'd be watching the Hallmark channel a lot :)

  4. I don't "do" scary movies! Haven't for years. I would have creeped myself out in that basement too!

  5. I tend to stay away from scary movies, but I love The Shining!

Your post had me cracking up because I have done the same thing! I'm glad to know I'm not the only one :)

  6. I don't do 'scary' either, just because of the imagination getting carried away. But what you wrote reminded me of my first camping trip many moons ago. My then-husband had to drive back in to town to work for the day, and that left me stranded in the woods. My panic set in about 10 minutes after he left to get back to the truck....I think with my fast running I caught him just as he reached the rig. Imagination and what it can do to us is amazing sometimes.

  7. as a kid I would go to the movies every Saturday with my friends .. I dont think we cared much what was playing we just went .. if it was a scary movie when I got home I would race, fly as fast as I could up the stairs there were two small series of steps with a landing between each floor .. the inbetween landing had a window and no light so it might be dark .. I truly ran faster past that landing because everyone knows the monsters could be there waiting .. and if you arent fast ...

  8. I love the Shining, too, Kassie. But the original with Jack Nicholson, not the remake with that other guy whose name I forget. I don't know why, I like to be scared (but only by movies!!!!).

Daryl, we used to scare ourselves when we were kids. Weirdos!

  9. Sorry I missed this when you posted. Can you tell that I'm catching up on my blog reading tonight?

You made me laugh out loud with this: "and a few of them are not as sweet as Linda Blair". It sounds like this was a particularly lovely morning - to me :)

Hey! You added me to your blog list! I can see me, right over there -> Thank you!
