Cleavers and Other Things Deli

So I was just going to take a couple of days off from writing.   A couple of days turned into a couple of weeks and then a couple of weeks turned into almost a month.  The past four weeks is a blur.  Now I know what Mulder and Scully felt like.  Stupid aliens.

I saw "him" again.   The dead eyes.   The blank stare.    Yup, I went to the deli section of the grocery store again.   Someone else helped me, but he was in the background doing . . . something.   With a cleaver.   Whack!!    And then . . . a smile.   Sort of.    One corner of his mouth, slightly upturned.   I think I saw drool.   He looked up and saw me looking at him.   His eyes went down to the cleaver and then . . . back to me.   I saw something in those dead eyes that frightened me.

Just kidding.

I DID see him again, though, and he DID have that blank stare.   But no cleaver, no drool.   Just a little net over his beard as he sliced meat for the display case.   We had no interaction, but I DID watch him for a few seconds.   He just seemed . . . sad.   Sad people make me sad.

The moral of this story?   Well, there really isn't one.   Except maybe don't judge a book by its cover.   Oh, and speaking of books and covers.  I read one last night.   A book.   "Always A Designer, Never A Bride."   Loved it.

Guess I'm back :)

  3. Glad to see you poppping in again! You had me a bit worried about the deli guy there, if he would have whacked that meat after looking at you, I'd be frequenting another store! :-) You are right that some folks give off sad vibes, you just know things are not right in their lives. I wish no one ever had to feel that way. I wish I had more time to read, of course if I blogged less... but that will never happen. LOL :-)

    1. I thought about NOT coming back. I just sort of disconnected - don't know why. But, . . . here I am. I love to read and haven't done nearly enough of it lately. I actually have read 4 books this week and am loving it!!

  6. I always think people look funny when they wear a net over facial hair.
If I had to do that 40 hours a week, I'd shave and not look goofy.

    1. I think nets look funny too, but I'd rather see a net than find a creepy hair in my food! yukko!!!!

  7. We all need to take a break every now and then. While you're chilling out during those breaks, though, don't be spending any more time hanging around that deli than you have to, okay?

  8. Yay for being back! I know how those breaks can just grow and grow.
Sad people make me sad, too. and what's even sadder is that they don't know how sad they are.

    1. I get sad, too, sometimes. But just for a minute, and I never know why, and then I snap out of it! Guess it's hard for him to snap out of it :(
